About
About Ars Musica
THE Festival of contemporary music in Belgium was founded in 1989, initiated by people as Paul Dujardin, Bernard Foccroulle, Christian Renard, Robert Wangermée …
In the two decades of its existence it became one of the reference festivals in Europe.
The concerts take place in March, each year. The bulk of the concerts happen in Brussels where Ars Musica is based, yet concerts also take place in Antwerp, Bruges, Liège and Mons. Altogether over 50 concerts and events for an audience of about 20.000 people.
Ars Musica’s public funding comes for the most part from the French speaking community of Belgium, but also the Dutch speaking community and the Brussels Capital Area support the Festival.
One of the targets for the coming years is to change the perception of the classical music of today. Ars Musica wishes to develop a larger audience for a music who often has difficulties finding a right audience. But that is why higher powers have invented us.
One should realise that even Mahler was once a contemporary composer.
Mission Statement
Ars Musica is a classic music festival, focusing on the music of today. It carries the standard of high international quality.
Every year it focuses on musical creation. Other forms of art also participate : dance, video, visual and multi-media forms of art.
Ars Musica is a unique forum. Cultural institutions from Brussels, the Flanders and Wallonia invite national and international ensembles to encounter each other in a spirit of creativity and open-mindedness, looking at Europe and the world.
By means of close collaboration with international partners, Ars Musica became the number one player for contemporary music in Belgium.
