Arne Deforce / cello
Electronics Champ d’Action
Iannis Xenakis: Nomos alpha (1965-66)
Iannis Xenakis: Kottos (1977)
Luciano Berio: Sequenza XIV (2002)
Luc Brewaeys: Black Rock Unfolding (2009), for cello and electronics
Giacinto Scelsi: Ighhur (1965)
Three quarters of the programme is made up of pieces by composers who, although sadly no longer with us, made a profound impact on the musical landscape of the 20th century. This was the generation that inspired Luc Brawaeys, who came back to their work time and time again when creating his own compositions. Arne Deforce, a specialist in contemporary music, plays Brewaeys’ latest composition for cello and electronics. For a decade now Arne Deforce has been interpreting Xenakis like no-one else can. His playing is raw, guttural, and on the other side of the notes.
