A custodian of the great European symphonic tradition for 75 years, the Luxembourg Philharmonic
Orchestra has enjoyed a remarkable career. Right from the outset, its history has been associated with that of radio broadcasting. In a very different audiovisual environment, the government of Luxembourg took over the orchestra in 1996, placing it within a foundation specially created for this purpose, the Henri Pensis Foundation, which was named after the orchestra’s first musical director. Now the Philharmonic Orchestra can properly fulfil its public service mandate and distinguish itself on the European stage through its dynamic activities and the quality of its performances.
