Terrêtektorh / Brussels Philharmonic
conductor Michel Tabachnik
Giovanni Gabrieli (arr. Michel Tabachnik): Canzone e Sonate (1615) - selection
György Ligeti: Lontano (1967)
Richard Wagner: Lohengrin (ouverture) (1850)
Iannis Xenakis: Terrêtektorh (1965-66)
This is a journey to the very heart of sound. Realising Richard Wagner’s dream, Iannis Xenakis wrote Terrêtektorh (1966) for an audience surrounded by 88 musicians, or indeed an orchestra dispersed amongst the audience. This proves that music is a spatial as well as a temporal art form. After this, music once again attempts to show that it is a superior art form by entering the third dimension: the prelude to Lohengrin, Gabrielli rearranged by Tabachnik, and Ligeti’s Lontano.
Michel Tabachnik, conductor of Brussels Philharmonic
Playing music from today and from the past in the same spirit of artistic communion is my “raison d’être”. Global development is moving at breakneck speed. The stars are moving further apart increasingly rapidly. Art is experiencing a counter-movement, one which unifies, brings together, and reunites ideas. But art is also evolving and transforming. To participate in this transformation is to participate in the development of humanity. Man is changing. Languages and artistic styles are also changing in his image. To experience the metamorphosis of art is to live at the heart of Man.
Avez-vous une mauvaise habitude ? L’impatience.
