Helena Tulve
Born in Tartu in 1972, one of the major figures of contemporary Estonian music
The only student of Erkki-Sven Tüür at the Estonian Academy of Music, she moved to France and obtained a First Prize at the Paris Conservatory in 1994
She also studied Gregorian chant, which, alongside French spectral music and Eastern oral traditions, profoundly influenced her work: fluid lines, meditative flow of time, metaphysical dimension...
Her music is inspired by organic sounds and nature
Appointed Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2012, she teaches composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and serves as artistic director of the Estonian Music Days
