Ensemble Intercontemporain
Created by Pierre Boulez in 1976 with the support of Michel Guy and the collaboration of Nicholas Snowman, the ensemble has been dedicated for 50 years to music from the 20th century to today, notably in collaboration with IRCAM (Institute for Scientific Research and Musical Creation)
Over the course of its history, it has ensured the creation of an immense catalog of around 2000 works by artists such as Elliott Carter, Luigi Dallapiccola, Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Kaija Saariaho, George Benjamin, Philip Glass, Magnus Lindberg, Olivier Messiaen, Steve Reich, Iannis Xenakis, Frank Zappa...
The 31 solo musicians who make up the ensemble have been under the direction of conductor Pierre Bleuse since 2023 and, united by a shared passion for creation, participate in the exploration of new musical territories alongside composers, who are commissioned with numerous new works each year
Their training activities for young performers and composers, the educational concerts, and the numerous cultural initiatives for the public reflect a constantly renewed commitment to passing on knowledge and skills
A legendary force in French musical creation, the Ensemble Intercontemporain has been in permanent residence at the Philharmonie de Paris since 2025
