BIRDS OF PARADISE
Juliet Fraser & Hannah Weirich Miry Concert Hall , GhentIt was once believed that birds of paradise never touched the ground. Soprano and violin sing suspended scores by Kristine Tjøgersen, Helge Sten and a new work by Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir.
Red Bird-of-Paradise, Black-billed Bird-of-Paradise, Curly-crested Bird-of-Paradise, Grumpy Bird-of-Paradise, Lesser Bird-of-Paradise, Emperor Bird-of-Paradise, Goldie's Bird-of-Paradise, Pale-billed Bird-of-Paradise, Magnificent Bird-of-Paradise … Nature's imagination is boundless! And just by listing the names of the bird-of-paradise species that inhabit the forests of Papua New Guinea and Australia, one can already see and hear a catalog of countless colors unfolding. These are the species that inspired Kristine Tjøgersen's score The Shape-Shifters, where the songs of birds of paradise resonate with voice and violin—two instruments that, as was once believed of birds of paradise, never descend to touch the ground.
A concert presented by two exceptional artists, constantly curious and boasting an immense creative output. Two voices tinged with electronica will feature in a concert that will also resonate with the soothing soundscapes of Helge Sten and a creation by the Icelandic artist Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir.
