Founded in 1973 by violinist David Harrington, the Kronos Quartet is at the forefront of the renewal of the musical possibilities of the string quartet. A cult and committed ensemble specializing in new music and original compositions, the Kronos Quartet has collaborated for over half a century with composers of minimalist and repetitive music, such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and Terry Riley. The Kronos Quartet has also performed works by Laurie Anderson, Asha Bhosle (the Bollywood legend), Arvo Pärt, Astor Piazzolla, Malian singer Rokia Traoré, and Serbian-American composer Aleksandra Vrebalov. Having received numerous prestigious awards and performed countless concerts and recordings, the Kronos Quartet has also shared the stage with Björk, David Bowie, poet Allen Ginsberg, and Tom Waits. With a program featuring works by Sara Miyamoto, Sun Ra, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, and Aleksandra Vrebalov, the Kronos Quartet and Ars Musica invite you to discover the pushing of musical boundaries that they are always seeking.
