With four composers from different generations, Ensemble Sturm und Klang has assembled a program that reflects its own identity, deeply committed to contemporary music and the movements that shape it. Julia Wolfe's * The Vermeer Room * (1989) presents the work of a musician who co-founded Bang on a Can with David Lang and Michael Gordon in 1987. This ensemble received immediate support from Steve Reich and John Cage. Graham Fitkin's *Twenty-six days * (2010) is the result of a twenty-six-day cycling trip in Italy undertaken by the British composer and musician. At the end of each day, the composition of this musical piece was accompanied by GPS data from his journey. Two new works will also be performed this evening by Sturm und Klang, showcasing the diversity of contemporary composition. One is by Claude Ledoux, whose aesthetic transcends written tradition, technology, and world music. The other is by Fanny Libert, a musician born in 2000, whose refined compositions are also enhanced by the poetry of their titles. It's a journey through original music that, each time in a different way, explores space, places, and geography.
